Wild West doggy party "Shootout", that the outlaws and even the in-laws will enjoy!

Get ready for the biggest doggy party showdown of all and have your birthday dog dress for the west!

My dog Jake was a whoopin’ and a hollerin’ for this theme party, so here we go...

* Wild West Doggy Party Invitations

Make a “wanted poster” birthday invitation for you birthday dog. To create and “old” looking poster, brush over the paper with cold tea or coffee. When dry, make some random holes in the paper with a pencil to look like bullet hole. Use a thick marker pen to write “WANTED” at the top then glue a photo of the birthday dog below. The wording could say:

“Why not mosey on over to our corral (your address)

on the (party date) at (time)

for a wagon-load of chow and some rootin’-tootin’ fun.

Send a local telegraph (phone number) to confirm.“

Maybe set the scene for your “good ole’ western party”, by neatly folding the invitations and putting them inside colorful cowboy hats, before hand delivering them to your guests.

Ring in your party news with this ding-dong of an idea. Make your invitations by customizing small cowbells. Paint each guest’s name on the outside of the bell. Tie a piece of rope to the bell with a tag attached giving details of the party and hand-deliver them.

* Wild West Doggy Party Decorations

Howdy there pardner, lets get ready for this ho’down, by decorating the house "Western" style.

Hang a huge sign over the doorway that says “Come on in and join (birthday dog name) at the OK Corral" or "Welcome to (birthday dog name) Old Wild West Party”.

With this great party theme there’s many ways to decorate your house or yard and give the party that authentic feel. Let’s set the scene with hay bales outside the front door. Use plastic or inflatable cactus around the hay to give a more western feel. Maybe a couple of plastic snakes lying around on the ground, will give a more realistic touch.

Hang "wanted" posters all over the walls with the birthday dog’s picture. Stand life-size cutouts of Cowboys and Cowgirls around the yard. Use rope to make lasso’s and hang as garlands.

Use checkered tablecloths over white linen and cowboy party theme plates, napkins, cups for a great looking table. Use straw bales for seating and tie cow-shaped balloons to them.

Put the doggie treats into clay pots and tie red and blue bandanna’s around them.

Try decorating an inflatable cactus with mini cowboy hats and a lasso, to make a great centerpiece for this western table.

* Wild West Doggy Party Food

Why not search out some of our birthday treats for rootin' tootin' yummy ideas, such as Chuck Wagon Chips, Rodeo Rounds, Prickly Cactus, etc. Just change the names of any treats to suit the dog party theme! Fill a flower trough or two with the treats for the party guest’s to tuck into.

Another very popular type of food is (almost!) anything barbecued. Give your doggie guests a real treat with barbecued chicken or steak!! I’m sure this “chow” will go down well with your guest’s owners as well. Maybe add a chilli stew, hotdogs and hamburgers. Don’t forget a variety of salsa, dips, crisps etc.to top off this wagon train of delicious chow!

* At the end of the doggy party...

Thank all your guests, both furry ones and their owners, and then hand out the party favors.

Party favors have become a “must have” at birthday parties. So why not send your doggie guests home with this great western shindig party favor? Put a few treats, a small squeaky toy or ball inside a bright bandana. Tie it up with string and add a miniature cowboy hat with their name on for that real western feel.

If you're looking for dog party game ideas? Why not check out our doggy party games section for inspiration. Doggy party games will be very active and boisterous and must be played with caution and care. However, you can be guaranteed that whichever type of game is played, the doggie owners will be in stitches... so have your camera handy!
